Chester Roman Festival 2005

This was our third year at Chester Roman festival and I think, the best one yet.

The organisers again worked hard to erect their "flatpack" fort (helped by our own human dynamo, Pete Stokes) on Chester Racecourse.

They were again supported by the vast majority of Roman groups in the UK.

This year, we were able to put out a full century of legionaries plus civilians and auxillia.

That is a rare sight nowadays, what with all the problems in getting groups to work together. The organisers at Chester though, appear to have cracked it.............

We erected our usual temporary "vicus" settlement outside of the Fort, but our Romans took a full part with the Roman groups present.

The main "skirmish" featured all the groups against a small band of Britons.

Of course, it all ended in tears for the locals. Any not killed in action were executed with Roman efficiency afterwards.

With the addition of a working gate this year, it allowed a tetsudo to be used as it would have been. The britons, armed only with "foam rocks" didn't really have much to stop it when the axes started landing on the gate itself .......

I was part of the defending british unit and it was impressive !!!

Later that evening, there was food, a fire and a band.
We brought our own entertainment ....... <right>
