| Madoc and Ash do Dolebury Warren - May 2004 Dolebury Hillfort used to be a well kept secret but the addition of steps up the steep side, which removes the need for a long walk up the spur, has meant that it is fairly busy nowadays. It encloses an area larger than cadbury (we think) with superb views across to the severn estuary. The banks are pretty much visible with large tumbles of rocks, where the soil has eroded way. They seemed alot smaller than I remembered from years back, probably a result of improved public access. There is also the remains of a stone building near the top. Dunno whether it's period or not. ![]() The best way to get access is to approach from the A38. There is turn, just after/before the traffic lights at the junction of the A368 and A38 in Churchill, sighnposted to Rowbarrow and the Black Swan pub. Sandwiched between this turn and the lights is a turn for Limestone Link, which is by a set of houses. follow the narrow road past all the houses and it terminates in a small car park with the steps leading up adjacent. It is a short but very steep climb. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
