Our period of interest is roughly the first two generations after the Roman invasion of Britain AD 43. This period is one of great changes in the country as it makes the transition into the province of Britannia; it includes the establishment of the road systems, towns and villas, the guerrilla war of Caractacus (in Wales), the rebellion of Boudicca and the final stand of the Caledonians at Mons Graupius (in modern Scotland) in AD83. ![]() It may sound obvious, but the only way to appreciate how weapons and armour are used, is to actually use them. We are the only Society in our period that actively participates in "re-enactment" combat, with reproduction weapons. We also encourage our members to develop the skills needed to use period missile weapons (such as pila, javelin, bow and sling) correctly.
