Reenactment groups

A reenactment group is an organisation that attempts to portray life in one or more historical periods and puts on shows for the public. While some concentrate on the more military aspects, others are more interested in everyday life (living history). We are members of three such groups, all of which reenact both warfare and living history.

The Vicus

The Vicus is the only British group that we are aware of that demonstrates combat between the Roman invaders of the 1st Century and their British opponents. Vicus also performs gladiatorial combat and is particularly strong in its living history display.

The Tungrians

This is a fairly new group which doesn't yet have a website but maintains an internet presence on Facebook. The Tungrians are based at Vindolanda Roman fort. The group offers guided tours of Vindolanda and depict Roman soldiers from various periods of the fort's occupation. Some aspects of civilian life are represented, particularly textiles and cookery.

Regia Anglorum

Regia consists of many smaller groups that specialize in Anglo-Saxon, Viking or Norman reenactment. Each local group is free to put on its own, generally smaller shows. However, as one of the largest reenactment groups in the Country, Regia can put on truly spectacular displays both on the battlefield and in the living history encampment. With its own cavalry arm, navy and purpose built village, Regia is also available for film work.
